Il esame di Italiano
The Italians have a strange way of wishing people luck. They say 'in bocca al lupo' which literally means in the mouth of the wolf. And one is suppose to reply, 'crepi', which means something like I will eat the wolf or in the words of my housemates, I will beast the wolf.  I just had my italian paper and my language for historians paper, and I really think the wolf ate me.

I really don't know whether I should be feeling more nervous about the paper. I usually feel terrible after a paper that I know I didn't do well for, but this time, I seem to feel more relieved that its over than anything else. And I don't actually know if that is a good. It probably isn't... To some extent I guess its a feeling of closure that comes with the knowledge that I probably won't have to do Italian again. And yet, to some extent I'm quite sad that its all over because I just got the hang of doing Italian, and I'm actually enjoying it. And I really think I should feel more nervous about the fact that the paper didn't really go well... I really think I need that nervousness to drive the rest of my revision.

Random thoughts
Just randomly decided to come here, and I realised that blogger changed the layout of everything. Anyway I don't actually mind since it benefits me because I can actually post using the ipad now. It used to lag a lot.

Anyway, because we are going for the coldplay concert soon, I was suppose to listen and learn the coldplay songs so that I can actually sing along and all during the concert. I know that most people don't have that problem because, well if you are going for the concert, then i guess you already know all the songs, but its a little different for me.
Anyway, the point is, while listening to all the songs,I came across 'Fix you', which happened to be one of the songs in the video montage my sec 4 teacher made for us just before we graduated. I didn't really bother to check out the lyrics before, but I did this time. And it kind of made me wonder why she actually picked that song, because the lyrics are quite emo. Here they are:

Fix You

When you try your best but you don't succeed
When you get what you want but not what you need
When you feel so tired but you can't sleep
Stuck in reverse

And the tears come streaming down your face
When you lose something you can't replace
When you love someone but it goes to waste
Could it be worse?

Lights will guide you home
And ignite your bones
And I will try to fix you

And high up above or down below
When you're too in love to let it go
But if you never try you'll never know
Just what you're worth

Lights will guide you home
And ignite your bones
And I will try to fix you

Tears stream down your face
When you lose something you cannot replace
Tears stream down your face
And I

Tears stream down your face
I promise you I will learn from my mistakes
Tears stream down your face
And I

Lights will guide you home
And ignite your bones
And I will try to fix you

Its strange how the lyrics don't really have anything to do with graduating at all, and yet I keep associating this song with graduating from secondary school. I guess its because I was introduced to this song throurgh the montage. AN in a way I guess its even stranger that I don't actually remember what is in the montage, but I do remember that this song was used in the montage. I don't mind though, I like the song, and I guess its extra special because I would always be reminded of secondary school when listening to this song.

summer school
I just rejected the offer for summer school. To be honest, I am really disappointed because I really wanted to do it. I mean like i've always wanted to do Southeast Asian history, because I actually like it. And although I knew that the chances of doing summer school were very slim, i really hoped to be able to do it. hehh... I guess there is a reason why, and well, I guess God has other plans. On a brighter note, it also means I get to travel with Rachel to Germany!! (:

twentyone
So, I have been twentyone for a few days now... Didn't really have the time to reflect on what it means to be twenty-one until now...

Its strange because people see twenty-one as the age where you become an adult. The age where you leave your childhood behind and actually embrace adulthood properly. Sort of get the feeling that so much more is expected of you when you turn twenty-one. Things that you sign are actually legally binding. It's sort of like having your safety net of ignorance and childishness being pulled away from you. You can't claim that you didn't understand the consequence of signing something and actually more or less get away with it. And that was kind of why I didn't want to turn twenty-one. Because it comes with so many responsibilities and so much expectations.

I was actually telling my housemates after twenty-one, you don't really look forward to your birthday anymore. Because after twenty-one, every birthday just means you get a year older. There isn't anything really significant you look forward to anymore. I've always thought twenty-one signified the prime of your youth. And so, everything after that sort of suggests a decline of youth... is that very pessimistic? Hehhh...

But looking back, I guess I have had a pretty great childhood. I was just recalling all the fun things I did in primary school. Like shooting people with G2 pens, and playing baseball in class with the recorder as a bat and a plasticine ball as a ball. Playing Marco Polo on a moving school bus, climbing over chairs on a moving school bus, stuffing uneaten bread into the seats of the school bus. Fighting on the monkey bars with random people in the morning. Climbing up the hill, although it wasnt allowed, and running all the way down. Playing scissors, paper, stone on the balancing beam and trying to psychoanalyse people so that I made sure I won ( it worked!) Coming out with weird mystery/adventure stories that I played with my friend on the school bus. Playing big doll house with my sister and using the WHOLE room as our dollhouse town. Pretending to eat eraser dust in kindergarten just so that the boys would stop boasting. Disbelieving Bryan the dinosaur and his story about his pet peacock, (took me ten years to realise it actually was true! I still can't quite get over the fact that after ten years I realise that he was actually telling the truth!) And in secondary school, where choir dominated almost everything. Worrying, practicing for auditions. Crying/stressing over SYF. Crying over math. Making the best friends I have. And in JC and uni, seeing God work in ways that are so amazing. Making things that I never in a million years thought I would be doing actually come true. Seeing God's hand move in my life. And I think for the first time, understanding what it means to have God's peace. God has been very very faithful and very very good!

And so ya... I think I have had quite a wonderful childhood. And I guess it is time to move on. Time to see what adulthood entails... Or at least take baby steps into adult life, since I'm not really working yet... Time to embrace what is before me. It is sort of scary... but at the same time, sort of exciting. And with God with me, there isn't really anything to fear(:

counting down
and I'm counting down to the end of term. I think its partly because this term has really been crazy with crazy rushed deadlines for essays and all. I have one more presentation and one more essay and then I'm done for the term.

Really excited about winter holidays and all but first I REALLY NEED TO FINISH THAT ESSAY AND THE PRESENTATION!! Its strange though, I think I'm having more fun in school this year, as in I actually enjoy what I'm studying more this year than last year. But strangely, I can't wait for term to end.
